Tendonitis Symptoms
Tendonitis symptoms can be caused by overuse of the particular
tendon or through an injury. Tendonitis can often occur in the elderly as their
tendons loose elasticity. The muscles and tendons no longer move smoothly and
can become inflamed. Inflammation can also occur in people that have just
started an exercise program and are unfamiliar with the proper warm-up
techniques needed to perform exercise correctly.
Specific tendonitis symptoms of pain for location:
- Patellar tendonitis. Experience pain just below your kneecap.
- Rotator cuff tendonitis. This tendonitis leads to shoulder pain.
- Tennis elbow. This type causes pain on the outer side of your forearm near your elbow when you rotate your forearm or grip an object.
Golfer's elbow causes pain on the inner part of your elbow.
- Achilles tendonitis. Pain just above your heel.
- Adductor tendonitis. Pain in your groin.
General symptoms of tendonitis:
- Tenderness
- Pain
- Mild swelling, in some cases
- Pain is worse with movement or activity
- Pain at night
Sometimes tendonitis disappears within a matter of weeks or
months, however tendonitis may become chronic or long term and can lead to the
rupture of a tendon. If untreated tendonitis may cause permanent damage to the
tissue that makes up your tendons.
Even though serious complications can arise, most people can
overcome this condition without too much interruption to their daily life. If
you are dealing with symptoms of tendonitis , then there has never been a better
reason to slow down and have your doctor diagnose the problem.
See your doctor if you have a fever and the area affected by
tendonitis appears red or swollen and warm (inflamed). These symptoms may
indicate there is an infection.
